If your computer claims to be tainted by Three Rings‘ game Puzzle Pirates then you can’t create a new account. There is an easy way to fix this.

  1. Uninstall Puzzle Pirates.
  2. Remove hash.dat.
  3. Install Puzzle Pirates.
  4. Create account.

I’m not sure where the file lives in Vista but in XP hash.dat is located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\

I’ll post later why I needed to figure this out.

  2. it doesn’t work. when i try to relog, the hash files comes back and it still tells me my computers tainted.

  3. I don’t know, I assume it would be similar to the way you do it in windows.

  4. It does work, I’ve done it on three different computers. You must be doing something wrong.

  5. Didn’t work for me either. Every time I got rid of it another one popped back up in its place as soon as I tried to log in.

  6. I don’t think I left anything out, I’ve done this one two of my Windows computers and they were both able to create accounts.

  7. Yeah, didn’t work for me either…every time I delete hash.dat it pops back up when i try to make and account. I followed the steps too. :(

  11. it so works ive done it 6 times i like getting banned XD

  12. Okey. Im gonna try that right now… For all of you that it didnt work did u maybe forget to unnistall it first, then delet the hash file, and then reinstall PP.

  18. This is what i do:
    1) Close Y!PP
    2) delete hash.dat
Located at: Start>Computer>Organize(top left corner-folder and search options)>View Tab>Show All Hidden Folders>C:> Program Data> Scroll all the way down>”hash.dat”
    3)Change MAC iP adress.
    4) Reload Y!PP

  25. Woops that post spazzed up .. i cant spel . my keyboard to old need to get a new one

  26. And message to all peeps who read this way to untaint ur pp client . te hash file is gonna come bak bt i know if ur pc tainted it goes in CAPS for me like HASH – Tainted – hash – Untainted Hope this helps :) Who eve made stupid foot rules :)

  27. Works great! If you’re having problems, make sure you uninstall puzzle pirates, delete the hash.dat file (on a mac you could probably just use finder to search for hash.dat) and then don’t try to log into a banned account. If you try to log into a banned account you will just taint your computer again.

  28. I’m not sure why, but it’s not working:
    1. I uninstalled puzzle pirates and erased it off my desktop and my recycling bin
    2. I deleted the hash file
    3. I reinstalled it
    4. It didn’t work

  29. Sigh. It worked for me… <,<

  30. Just a though, still in the process of downloading PP, but it may work if you refresh you ip aswell. Google how to do this.

  31. i uninstalled pp, deleted the file, installed pp, as soon as pp was finished downloading the file came back, is there any way i can block the file from coming back? maybe like changing my IP address or something?

  32. i tried it on another tainted computer, on this computer the file wasn’t even there, but when i tried to play puzzle pirates or download it, no files would download and nothing would change, there is absolutely no way of getting pp on that computer anymore unless i go buy the cd

  33. It didn’t work for me untill I used a program to change my mac address and ip address

  34. …You’re IP’s are also logged, so unless you change it to create new accounts, you’re computer and all other computers on that IP will become tainted if you try to make new accounts with them on the same IP. Follow the given steps to remove the hash.dat, THEN change your IP. Technitium MAC Address Changer v5 R3 is one of the best (and most trusted) programs used to change hard-wired IP addresses (won’t work for Wi-Fi) Good Luck, and…don’t make the same mistakes again and again…because the outcome won’t change…

  35. deleting my hash.dat worked for me and I have Windows Vista Home Premium. First I uninstalled puzzle pirates. Searched for my “hash” file with start menu the window popped up i checked hidden areas and put it to search “everywhere” deleted it. Re-installed puzzle pirates and I could make characters now
