Puzzle Pirates – Is your computer tainted?
If your computer claims to be tainted by Three Rings‘ game Puzzle Pirates then you can’t create a new account. There is an easy way to fix this.
- Uninstall Puzzle Pirates.
- Remove hash.dat.
- Install Puzzle Pirates.
- Create account.
I’m not sure where the file lives in Vista but in XP hash.dat is located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\
I’ll post later why I needed to figure this out.

I don’t know, I assume it would be similar to the way you do it in windows.
May 8th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
It does work, I’ve done it on three different computers. You must be doing something wrong.

Didn’t work for me either. Every time I got rid of it another one popped back up in its place as soon as I tried to log in.

I don’t think I left anything out, I’ve done this one two of my Windows computers and they were both able to create accounts.

December 9th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
then replace hash.dat with the one that doesn’t have any information on it

This is what i do:
1) Close Y!PP
2) delete hash.dat
Located at: Start>Computer>Organize(top left corner-folder and search options)>View Tab>Show All Hidden Folders>C:> Program Data> Scroll all the way down>”hash.dat”
3)Change MAC iP adress.
4) Reload Y!PP

Works great! If you’re having problems, make sure you uninstall puzzle pirates, delete the hash.dat file (on a mac you could probably just use finder to search for hash.dat) and then don’t try to log into a banned account. If you try to log into a banned account you will just taint your computer again.

I’m not sure why, but it’s not working:
1. I uninstalled puzzle pirates and erased it off my desktop and my recycling bin
2. I deleted the hash file
3. I reinstalled it
4. It didn’t work

Sigh. It worked for me… <,<
