Puzzle Pirates – Is your computer tainted?

If your computer claims to be tainted by Three Rings‘ game Puzzle Pirates then you can’t create a new account. There is an easy way to fix this.

  1. Uninstall Puzzle Pirates.
  2. Remove hash.dat.
  3. Install Puzzle Pirates.
  4. Create account.

I’m not sure where the file lives in Vista but in XP hash.dat is located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\

I’ll post later why I needed to figure this out.

  27. catchmeifyoucan Says:

Works great! If you’re having problems, make sure you uninstall puzzle pirates, delete the hash.dat file (on a mac you could probably just use finder to search for hash.dat) and then don’t try to log into a banned account. If you try to log into a banned account you will just taint your computer again.

  28. Matthew Says:

I’m not sure why, but it’s not working:
    1. I uninstalled puzzle pirates and erased it off my desktop and my recycling bin
    2. I deleted the hash file
    3. I reinstalled it
    4. It didn’t work

  29. Eeeeper Says:

Sigh. It worked for me… <,<
